US Russia reach agreement to resume poultry exports

Washington, Jun 25 (PTI) US President Barack Obama and his Russian counterpart Dimitry Medvedev and today reached an agreement to resume export of American poultry to Russia.

Under the agreement, US will inform in its Department of Agriculture website about the disinfectants/pathogen reductions treatments which are approved by Russia for processing poultry and food.

“We reached an agreement that will allow the United States to begin exporting our poultry products to Russia once again. Chicken is important,” Obama said at a joint press conference with Medvedev.

The US will provide information to Russia on the solutions that companies use on poultry shipped to Russia.

In addition, the US will give Russia an updated list of poultry processing facilities authorised to ship poultry to Russia.

The agreement was welcomed by the US Trade Representative Ron Kirk and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
