Three-day film fest rolls on
Imphal August 18: The three-day 2nd Manipur International Documentary Short and Animation Film Festival, 2010 began at the hall of the Manipur Film Development Corporation (MFDC), Palace compound today.
The inaugural function was graced by noted film maker Padmashree A Shyam Sharma as chief guest and presided over by the commissioner of Art and Culture, RK Nimai and Director General of Film Division, Kuldip Sinha as guests of honour.
The festival was organised by the Manipur Film Development Corporation Ltd in collaboration with the Union ministry of Information and Broadcasting.
Speaking on the occasion, A Shyam Sharma said that the three day festival will provide a chance to state cinegoers to enjoy internationally acclaimed documentary films.
He said he was not happy when documentary films were kept on the sideline when film festivals were held and said documentary films are neglected by the cinegoers in the country and organizers also tried to avoid inclusion of the same in such festivals.
This has raised the question whether documentary films are a part of the film industry. Documentary films need encouragement, he added.
Director general of Film Divisions, Kuldip Sinha talked on the communication knowledge that can be earned from watching films apart from giving entertainment to the people.
He said that many documentary films linked with art, culture, industries and environment etc. are produced by the Film Division and the holding of the festival in Manipur will help young film makers to produce quality documentary films.
The films to be shown in this festival will also give new ideas of making such films in the state, he added.
