Imphal August 16: A combined team of Thoubal police commandos and troops of 21 Assam Rifles killed a suspected PREPAK cadre on Saturday night.  They also apprehended a member of the banned RPF in a separate counter insurgency operation.
A police report said that the suspect was killed in an encounter around 10.30 pm of August 14 at Natekhong located between Hiyanglam and Sekmaijin under Kakching police station of Thoubal district.

One M-16 rifle loaded with six live rounds and one hand grenade was recovered from the possession of the slain suspect, the police report said. The dead body has been sent to the RIMS morgue.

The combined team also apprehended a member of the banned RPF identified as Wahengbam Malemnganba @ Awangamba @ Lenin (29) son of W Binoy of Wabagai Keithelmanbi from Yangdong Bazar around 1.30 pm of August 14 last.

Malemnganba is an active member of the RPF, his Army no. being 2064, the statement claimed adding that five live rounds of AK rifle ammunition and one Nokia Handset were recovered from the nabbed underground.
