NCP elects new leader for GHADC

SHILLONG: In a major development in the affairs of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC), which is currently under suspension, the NCP has elected Royanath D Sangma as its Legislative Party Leader.

PK Sangma, the earlier Legislative Party Leader, who is learnt to be the main bottleneck of NCP’s rebel MDCs coming back to the fold, submitted his resignation to party’s state president W Kharlukhi on July 15.

The significant development was informed in a statement issued by Leader of Opposition Conrad Sangma on Saturday.

The NCP president accepted the resignation and a meeting of Legislative Party meeting of NCP in GHADC was called on Saturday.

According to the statement, PK Sangma proposed the name of Royanath D Sangma to be the new NCP Legislative Party Leader of GHADC and it was seconded by Rajya Sabha MP Thomas A Sangma.

The election of the new NCP Legislative Party Leader of GHADC made in presence of former Lok Sabha Speaker and present MLA PA Sangma, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Conrad K Sangma and MLA John Manner Marak among others, the statement said.

With three more months remaining for the six-month suspension period to be over, the election of the new NCP GHADC leader would likely to stir political activities in Garo Hills.
