Meghalaya Cows Arrive After Ordeal In Odisha

SHILLONG: As many as 20 milch cows meant for distribution as part of the soon-to-be launched dairy mission in Meghalaya were detained recently at Bhubaneswar railway station by Bajrang Dal activists.

An official said the gau rakshaks entered the parcel van of the Kochuveli-Guwahati Express when it arrived at Bhubaneswar railway station and attacked four persons, including the loco pilot and his assistant. Later, the activists unloaded the cows.

Though the firm selected by the Meghalaya Government was transporting the cows from Salem in Tamil Nadu to Ampati, the attackers thought that they were smuggled cows. Later, the Railway Police registered a case against the activists and the cattle were taken to a cow shelter in Bhubaneswar.

Commissioner and Secretary of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary department Sampath Kumar said the cattle have already arrived in the State after passing through the ordeal.
