Imphal, June 6 (EMN): In a move to promote sports persons, the Manipur state authority will increase daily remuneration given to Manipur sportspersons of any disciplines who represent the state in the National level from the existing amount of Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 per day.
Manipur’s Youth Affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip made this announcement while addressing felicitation function in honour of Mary Kom Regional Boxing Foundation students who won medals in the recently concluded state level boxing championship at Mary Kom-SAI Boxing Academy at National Games here on Tuesday.
Regardless of the players winning medal or not, sportspersons of any disciplines who represent the State in the National level would be given daily remuneration of Rs 1000, the Minister Letpao said while adding that officials of the department would be directed to implement the same immediately.
Emphasising that nutritious diets are a must to every sportsperson, he also said that the Government will do its best to ensure that quality food/diets are served to trainee sportspersons under Special Area Games (SAG).
He said that the existing practice of awarding tender to caterers for sportspersons would also be streamlined so that the quality of food served to the players/trainee sportspersons is enhanced.
Urging the young boxers to dream big with grit, determination, he questioned, “If Mary can, why can’t you do?” Lauding the MKRBF for mentoring many promising boxers mostly from economically weak background, he also wished the foundation produces many fine boxers in the days to come.
Fifteen out of 53 MKRBF boxers, who represented their respective district won gold medals in the recently concluded state level boxing championship, were presented a cash reward of Rs 10,000 each. Nineteen boxers each won silver and bronze medals. Silver medallists got Rs 7,000 each and Rs 5,000 each.
Amongst others, founder of MKRBF MC Mary Kom, MP (Rajya Sabha) and five times World boxing champion and DIG CRPF SK Sharma Range Imphal exhorted the young and promising boxers of the academy during the programme.
