Loktak project affected farmers yet to be compensate
Imphal, July 12: Government is yet to materialize an assurance given 40 year before the coming up of Loktak project regarding the payment of compensations for affected land by the project.
With the objective pressurizing the state government for payment of the compensation, a new body called Action Committee of Loktak Project Affected People’s Welfare Association has been formed recently.
A sit-in protest was staged by the farmers whose fields had been affected by the project at Sekmaijin Bazar in Thoubal district today.
Talking to reporters at the protest site, secretary of the association, H Ibohal said that over 45,000 acres of paddy field had been affected by the coming up of project. They have been crying for payment of compensation of the loss land for the last around 30 year but not yet paid out.
Mention may be made that the construction works of Loktak Project was started in 1970 and commission in 1984.
