SHILLONG: The KHADC passed three separate Bills on revised pay for the MDCs including its CEM and Leader of Opposition during the final day of the budget session on Monday.
After an approval from the Governor on the Bills, the MDCs would see nearly three times hike in their salaries.
The Bills that were passed on Monday include KHADC Chairman’s and Deputy Chairman’s and Members of the Executive Committee (Tenth Amendment) (Salaries and Allowances) Bill 2010, KHADC (Leaders of the Opposition) (Salaries and Allowances) (Second Amendment) Bill 2010 and KHADC Members (Eight Amendment) (Salaries and Allowances) Bill 2010.
The KHADC (Member’s Pension) (First Amendment) Bill 2010 was also passed on Monday.
As per the Bill, the CEM’s salary would be raised from Rs 15,000 to Rs 39,900, Deputy CEM from Rs 14,500 to Rs 38,570 and Leader of Opposition from Rs 14,500 to Rs 37,850.
Executive Member’s salary would be hiked from Rs 14,000 to Rs 38,570, Chairman’s from 14,500 to Rs 38,570 and that of Deputy Chairman from Rs 14,000 to Rs 37,240, as per the Bill. The proposed salaries are excluding other allowances of the MDCs.
Punishment for tree felling: The KHADC Executive Committee has withheld a year’s increment of five employees of the Council for their involvement in illegal felling of trees in Athiabari, Aradonga and Nunmati.
However, no concrete evidence against the employees were found during the departmental inquiry, EM in-charge Forest J Tynsong told the House on Monday.
Meanwhile, EC in-charge Finance Antonio War informed the House that the Council had not been able to provide proper health and sanitation facilities in the Himas and Elakas under the KHADC jurisdiction. The work currently being done under MDC schemes since 2005-2006 had to suffer due low allocation of funds to the MDCs concerned, he said.
