HNLC refutes tie-ups with GNLA, NDFB

SHILLONG: The HNLC has strongly refuted newspaper reports of it entering into agreements with the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) or the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA).
“We are surprised at this intelligence source speculation, that our commander-in-chief Bobby Marwein had met the leaders of the two outfits to facilitate ties,” HNLC publicity secretary Sainkupar Nongtraw said in a statement on Thursday.
He termed this as a police attempt to make the HNLC the scapegoat to cover up failures in rescuing Rominus Syngkon, the abducted East Garo Hills DTO. He added the Government is only trying to create confusion in people’s minds by spreading this kind of news.
Nongtraw, however, expressed fears of a communal clash if the GNLA decided to kill Syngkon instead of only teaching him a “lesson for his misdeeds.”
Earlier on Wednesday, intelligence reports had alleged the HNLC was attempting to enter into tie-ups with GNLA and NDFB.
3 GNLA cadres held: Three GNLA militants were arrested by police from Williamnagar in East Garo Hills district on Thursday. The trio – Johan T Sangma, Albin Ch Momin alias Gracepa and Rakesh T Sangma – are all from Dorengkigre village in the district.
