Governor closes school silver jubilee celebration

JOWAI: Governor of Meghalaya, RS Mooshahary, closed the 25th year Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Jowai Public School, Jowai, with grandeur on Wednesday. Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh, Principal Secretary in-charge Education P Thangkhiew, Director Higher Technical Education W B Khyllep, Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner T Dkhar and others also attended the closing ceremony.

Mooshahary appreciated the Education Department through the minister in charge for providing financial assistance to the School Authority for celebrating its jubilee.

“Education is not only teaching from the textbook. It should also be holistic in nature so as to broaden the thought and sharpen the minds of the students,” Mooshahary said, emphasising that sports and games should be part of the syllabus besides inclusion of vocational training at the school level.

Guest of honour Ms Ampareen Lyngdoh said every student should have equal access to quality education and called upon teachers to develop their leadership quality and understand that nation building is an important concept in school.

School Principal S Gathphoh handed over a memorandum to the Governor and Education Minister for a proper library, computer sets and a playground.
