Cops bash up Army man
By Our Reporter
Shillong: Traffic police taught an “arrogant” Army personnel a “lesson” on a city street but not without alleged human rights violation.
Infuriated traffic personnel dragged the Army man into a police jeep and beat him black and blue before taking him to the Sadar Police Station while his pregnant wife was left crying on the road.
Earlier, the traffic police intercepted a two-wheeler near Ward’s Lake here on which three persons – the Army personnel, his wife and another person – were coming from NEIGRIHMS.
As the police charged the Army personnel of violating traffic norms, the latter got irritated and allegedly slapped one traffic policeman, leading to a scuffle.
Eyewitnesses said traffic personnel took away the Army man while his pregnant wife was found to be crying on the footpath.
When contacted, police officials said it was a minor matter and amicably settled at the police station.
However, eyewitnesses maintained police could have dealt with the traffic violation without bashing up the man and leaving his pregnant wife in the lurch.
