Congress divided on ‘deposing’ JHADC CEM

From Our Correspondent

JOWAI: Congress MDCs of the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) are now divided into two groups regarding the ‘fate’ of the Chief Executive Member (CEM). The new group, led by some senior MDCs, is all stirred up to ‘depose’ present incumbent Hambertus Nongtdu from the CEM post.

Sources informed Nongtdu will “lose his majority” in the next winter session. Most of the MDCs are now bustling for the majority.

The sources added the group against Hambertus Nongtdu is devising ways to make Opposition leader Moonlight Pariat table a “No Confidence Motion” at the next session of the House.

They added Nongtdu still has the support of only a few MDCs, such as Bataw-Lakadong MDC Joinriwel Pyrtuh, War Central MDC Hollando Lamin, Narpuh MDC MS Tyngkra, Ummulong MDC Laitsing Shylla and Musniang MDC Amos Dkhar.

Some of the dissident Congress MDCs also camped at Shillong on Monday, for “discussions” with some legislators from Jaintia Hills.

CEM Hambertus Nongtdu has confirmed “moves to remove him from his post”. He still claims to enjoy the majority, though.

“I am well aware that some MDCs, only five or six, are conspiring to remove me as CEM,” Nongtdu averred.

“I have done nothing wrong. I have treated all members equally – sans partiality. If they wish to remove me from the post, I don’t mind, it depends. I have no more confidence in them,” he declared.

An MDC supporter of Nongtdu said, “Yes, it is true. A group of six MDCs is now camping to remove the CEM from the post. This actually began only after the removal of Madonbai Rymbai, Khliehtyrshi MDC, from the Post of Deputy CEM.”

“Nineteen Congress MDCs demanded the removal of his Dy CEM. The DCA is yet to approve Joinriwell Pyrtuh as the new Dy CEM,” he added.
