City hospital charged with negligence

SHILLONG: The city is yet to get over the recent turmoil in NEIGRIHMS when another city hospital has come under fire, albeit for a different reason.
The father of a patient, who recently underwent surgery in Bethany Hospital, has filed a case against the hospital with the Consumer Court for gross negligence and misconduct against the patient.
The FKJGP has even threatened to shut down the Hospital if the Court verdict holds the hospital authorities of negligence while conducting the operation on the patient, Rudolf R Challam, earlier this month.
According to JP Mawkhiew, the patient’s father, Rudolf was admitted into the hospital on August 13 for undergoing an operation for appendicitis under the care of Dr LM Darlong. After the operation, the patient complained of pain and restlessness, following which the doctor agreed to conduct a free-of-cost second operation on August 16. When the patient was finally discharged the Hospital presented a bill amounting to Rs 83, 551 which the patient’s father had to pay.
The family of the patient along with the FKJGP then filed a complaint in the Consumer Court.
Meanwhile, hospital authorities have denied any mistake on the part of the doctor who performed the operation.
