43rd Meghalaya Apex Bank inaugurated

TURA: The 43rd Branch of the Meghalaya Co-Operative Apex Bank Ltd (MCAB) was formally opened at Hallidayganj town of West Garo Hills by Cooperation Minister, Frankenstein. W. Momin, on Monday morning.

The MCAB which set root with humble beginnings by having just two branches after the creation of the state of Meghalaya now boasts of 43 branches all over the state. The Bank has been catering to a wide variety of requirements of the people of the region, especially women, physically impaired and the rural populace. Amongst the bank’s many laurels, it has been presented with a National Award by the Federation of Co-Operative Societies and NABARD. The bank has also been chosen as an entity to channelize certain centralized funds like the Schedule Tribe Finance and Development Commission and the Schedule Caste Finance and Development Commission etc.

The Co-Operation Minister, Mr. F. W. Momin, while addressing the gathering said that the Co-Operative society was working towards improving the socio-economic condition of the people of Meghalaya.

He also lauded the local MLA of Rajabala, Sayeedullah Nongrum, under whose initiative the Hallidayganj branch has come up.

Expressing his happiness at being able to witness the inauguration of a branch of the Meghalaya Co-Operative Apex Bank in his own constituency Mr. Sayeedullah Nongrum said “We have achieved a goal and we are grateful to the staff of the bank”. He later urged the people of the region to treat the bank as their own property stating that they were the stakeholders.

Among others present at the gathering were Mr. D. F. War, MD, MCAB, Mrs. Rosahn Warjri, Chairperson, MCAB who also presided over the function, Mr. Mukul Das, Vice Chairman, MCAB, Mr. P. R, Marak, Area Manager, MCAB, Tura, other staff and members of the public.
